Art In Autism is a program created by John Leahy, owner of Peace Valley Studios. This program was designed to practice fundamental skills relating to muscle dexterity and fine motor skills. Students will be challenged to try out different instruments, while learning proper technique on each one. Students will be pushed to engage in new types of music along with music they are familiar with. During the sessions students can expect a laid back environment with an inviting teacher who is looking to work one on one with each students goals.

Everyone is different, and learns differently. Depending on the demand for this class, will determine the amount of staff that we will involve. Johns goal is to promote an environment centered around  benefits of music that can be applicable in day to day skills.

Based off of the info given, here are some ways to know if this class is for your child: 

-Your child is non speaking, limited speaker, or communicates in alternative ways.

-Your child has a love for music, but traditional music classes are too intense 

-Your child struggles with thins like holding a pencil / or maintaining a grip on objects for an extended period of time. (we will heavily be focusing on things such as holding a drumstick or pushing down on a guitar string.)

If you find that your child would NOT work well in this type of atmosphere, due to them needing to be in a one on one setting, John is making special accommodations to run this program one on one with students who are intersted but cannot handle the group setting or duration.
